Kristin S. Street

Biography

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Kristin earned a BFA in Textile Design in 1980 from The Rhode Island School of Design.  During the ensuing years she held a variety of jobs including, working artist, costume designer, restoration carpenter and teacher, while raising a family.  She earned an MFA, concentrating in Sculpture and Studio Art from The Maryland Institute College of Art in 2005 and worked as a mentor and assistant to the director of that same program for three additional summers.

Since her graduation in 1980, Kristin has worked at Moses Brown School, a private preparatory school in Providence, RI.  She has held a number of different positions; Department Chair, Visual Arts Coordinator, and teacher, offering instruction in a broad array of media including, textile design and construction, sculpture, drawing, painting, traditional photography, digital photography and film.  Many of these same techniques are found within her own artistic explorations.  She also continues teaching courses through the Continuing Education Department at The Rhode Island School of Design.

In 1984, Kristin founded The Krause Gallery, located at Moses Brown School, where she continues in the position of director and curator.  In 2010, Kristin established another gallery, The Mill Gallery, located in Lorraine Mill, in Pawtucket, RI, which is now home to the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative.

While she spends a good deal of time and energy teaching and promoting the efforts of artists through her curatorial work, Kristin has maintained a consistent exhibition schedule over the years, exhibiting in Museums and galleries across the country.
